Published to mark the centenary of his birth and to accompany an exhibition at the Musees Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique in Brussels from March 1998, this is an illustrated study of the Belgian Surrealist painter, Rene Magritte. Three hundred paintings and gouaches are reproduced in colour and accompanied by essays and comparative and archival illustrations. There is also a section presenting topics such as Magritte and film, the Magritte archives, and interviews with the artist, his colleagues and his family.
